Abstract EN

This study aimed to examine the effect of cultural differences of map users on recont- tion of counry names from the world political map.

It also aimed to examine the factors which affect recognition during map reading.

The study sample consisted of two groups of non-geography college students: (90) Jodranian and (69) American students.

They were asked to place the country names on a world map.

The results revealed statistical differences between the two groups concerning the cor¬rect answers.

It also that the correct answers of the Jordanian group varied according to area, power, and cultural ties.

On the other hand, they varied according to: area, power, and distance for the correct answers of the American group.
