Abstract EN
Glutathione S-transferase activity towards the substrate 1 -chloro-2,4-dinitrobenzene was detected in halophilic bacteria strains Hal-1, Hal-2, Hal-3, and Hal-4 were isolated from the southern region of Jordan (Al-Ghuir-Karak Govemorate). The enzymes from the bacterial isolates were purified and compared with those of the reference bacterial strains Aphanotheca halophytica ATCC 43922, Marinococcus halophilus ATCC 27964 and Micrococcus halobius ATCC 21727.
The specific activity of the enzyme ranged between 0.51 to 0.81 jimol/min/mg protein.
These values were lower than those found in livers of cows and rats.
