Abstract AR
Abstract EN
The aim of this work was to study the relationship between anticardiolipin antibodies (ACL) and dyslipoproteinemia on one hand, and the clinical manifestations of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients.
This study comprised 24 SLE females.
IgG and IgM ACL antibodies were measured with lipid profile and standard serological tests.
IgG ACL antibodies were elevated in 14/24 (58.3 %).
Serum level of cholesterol, triglycerides and low-density lipoproteins (LDL) were significantly higher in patients than controls and also higher in patients with high ACL antibodies than controls and higher in patients with elevated serum levels of ACL antibodies than in patients with normal serum levels of ACL antibodies (p < 0.05).
Serum concentrations of high-density lipoproteins (HDL) were significantly lower in patients than controls and in patients with elevated ACL antibodies than in patients with normal ACL antibodies.
Cardiac affection was the only clinical manifestation, which showed positive correlation with elevated serum concentrations of ACL antibodies in patients with SLE.
It is concluded that the presence of ACL antibodies in lupus patients increases their susceptibility to dyslipoproteinemia and cardiac involvement.
