Abstract AR
Abstract EN
Anemia is a common feature of disease activity in RA and SLE.
Its cause is multifactorial including anemia of chronic disease, iron deficiency, vitamin B12 deficiency, erythropoeitin deficiency, etc.
Antigastric parietal cell antibody (AGPCA) has been identified and related to anemia of autoimmune gastritis.
The aim of this work was to investigate the possible role of AGPCA in RA and SLE.
Thirty patients with RA, 21 patients with SLE and 20 healthy volunteers were investigated for serum ferritin, vitamin B12 and AGPCA.
43 % of RA patients suffered from anemia as well as 52 % of SLE patients.
AGPCA was high in both diseases correlating with disease activity, associated with extra-articular rheumatoid manifestations and highly correlated with patients with lupus nephritis.
Levels of AGPCA did not correlate with serum ferritin or vitamin B12.
