An experimental analysis of the public goods provision problem using Egyptian subjects

Experimental economics has been used to examine a variety of problems.

In this paper we adopt an experimental approach in the analysis of group and individual behaviour towards public goods provision under the voluntary contribution mechanism.

Following Isaac and Walker (1988a) we examine the effect of group size and marginal per capita return on contribution rates, using Egyptian subjects.

The conclusions reached are broadly in accordance with the expected effect of these variables on contribution rates.

The specification of the parameter^alues are made in order to examine the model when theoretical predictions are zero contribution, and, full-contribution towards the public good.

In accordance with other studies conducted, contribution rates do not conform to these theoretical predictions.
