Correlation between helicobacter pylori and vomiting with pregnancy

Setting: This study was conducted on patients visited or admitted to the obstetrics and gynecology department at Bab El-Sharia University Hospitals for a period of one year starting from July, 1999.

Objective: This study aimed to find a correlation between vomiting of pregnancy and helicobacter pylori (HP) infection and evaluation endoscopic finding in cases with hyperemesis graviderum.

Patients and Methods: Sixty pregnant women were enrolled for this study suffering from vomiting with pregnancy.

Thirty7 pregnant women were not suffering from VP selected as a control group.

Serum antibodies against Helicobacter pylori were looked for patients with persistent hyperemeisis graviderum had been examined by upper gastroduodenal endoscopy.

Results and Conclusions: There is a significant correlation between vomiting with pregnancy and the presence of anti-helicobacter pylori antibodies.

This correlation increased more with hypememesis graviderum than emesis graviderum.

Also, gastro-dudenoscopy in cases suffering from persistant vomiting with pregnancy showed features of gasteritis which had the most signifcant correlation with antihelicobacter antibodies.
