English Abstract

General objectives : Assessment of the latex agglutination and real–time polymerase chain reaction in the diagnosis of T.

uaginalis. Specific objectives : 1.

to compare the sensitivity of the latex agglutination test and real–time polymerase chain reaction microscopic and culture techniques. 2.

To determine the prevalence in the surveyed individuals using the two newly introduced techniques. RESULTS : The results revealed that the detection of antigen in vaginal swab using the latex agglutination test was more effective than microscopic examination in the diagnosis of T.

uaginalis infection, considering the microscopic technique as the gold standard, the sensitivity ,specificity positive and negative predictive values of the latex agglutination test .

for T.

uaginalis were 97.8 %, 92.8 %, 99.6 % and 68.4 % respctively. Furthermore, in this study, a real–time PCR assay for detection quantification of T.

UAGINALIS DNA in vaginal swap samples was evaluated as an alternative diagnostic method for the detection of trichomoniasis. Primers and probes were designed for specific amplification were combined with an internal control.

using positive and negative DNA controls and taking the microscopical examination as the gold standards, real-time PCR was found to be 96.1 % sensitive 100 % specific predictive value 42.1 % negative predictive value for the diagnosis of T.

uaginalis The study showed that the disease is most prevalent in the age group between (25-21) more than other groups .

and there was a relationship between the prevalence of the disease and the social status and economic status and also there is a relationship between the diseases, and others sexually transmitted diseases.

Conclusion : This study showed that the latex agglutination test and the real-time polymerase chain reaction were considered to be of high sensitivity and specificity than the use of microscope examination and culture for the detecting. The latex agglutination test is simple to perform and more cost effective than culture, requires no equipment, and gives a result in less than 3 minutes which allows for prompt diagnosis and treatment.
