English Abstract

This study was conducted in Khartoum State,(Sudan), to determine the concentration of Air lead, blood lead and hemoglobin concentration .

40 persons were selected randomly (30 exposed + 10 control).

The two groups in age range from 19-46 years old and lived in Khartoum state.

Air lead samples were collected from Khartoum state which include Khartoum, Khartoum Bahry and Omdurman.

The concentration of Air lead were 31.7 / 25 and 31.7 g / m3 respectively.

In respondents the BLL was (30.66 4.9 g / dl) , where as in control the average blood lead level "BLL " was( 26.6 3.52 g / dl), and statistically there was highly significant deference between exposed people and control, Also the amount of hemoglobin "Hb" in respondents was (69.0 8.2 %) and (79.3 7.3 %) for control , and statistically there was highly significant (P < 0.01) between respondents and control.

This study was found a remarkable link between the elevated Blood lead level and symptoms associated with it, such as headache, fatigue, GIT disorders and numbness.

In order to reduce the present hazards caused by lead, the study has recommended that, using of gasoline with out addition of lead ,similar to other countries, such as USA and south Africa.

The study also recommended the use of dust control and hygienic measure.

It recommends also not using lead as it possible in daily life.
