Hairy cell leukaemia : case report and literature review

Hairy cell leukaemia (hi CL) is an uncommon B-cell malignancy.

Il is a disease of elderly males with a median age of onset of 50 years.

For those reasons, ive report a newly diagnosed HCL.

case in a young adult male, 35 years old age in Basrah.

He presented with progressive pallor, multiple ecchymotic spots on the body with fever andfeeling of abdominal discomfort due to a massively enlarged spleen.

His peripheral blood showed normochromic anaemia, neutropenia, thrombocytopenia, rapid sedimentation and the appearance of many hairy cells.

Diagnosis had been confirmed by bone marrow trephine biopsy.

The patient then had been treated by alpha interferon.

He had run a nice course with much improvement in his general status, and his haematologicalparameters.

The spleen regressed in si %e and the hairy cells disappeared from the peripheral blood.
