English Abstract

Geographic Information System is one of the modern sciences which developed rapidly at last decades.

It used widely in decision making and support.

The main objective of this study is to use powerful of Geographic Information System GIS and Remote Sensing techniques to produce a land cover map of Nyala city.

Nyala city is a capital of Southern Darfur and one of the biggest cities which is came the second one after Khartoum according to 10th census in 2008 and it have strategic characteristics.

These situations necessitate developing Wright and systematic policies for planning to contribute in developing this city.

To achieve this goal, maps of the area and Landsat 7 satellite image covering the study area were used and georectified to WGS84 UTM zone 35 which manipulated with Geographic Information System GIS software in stage of input and output of data.

Satellite image was classified.

Unsupervised classification was used to classify five classes of land use/land cover which is: buildings, farms, valleys, clay and vegetation.
