Abstract EN

The morphology and reproduction of the Hawksbill sea turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata) at Al-Mandhar , Al-Hodiedah area in the Red Sea , Coast of Yemen , have been studied.

It was found that the mean weight of the sample is 44.6 kg and the weight ranges between 13 and 69 kg; the length of curved carapace ranges between 53 and 100 cm; and the mean length was 75.3 cm.

also the curved Carapace width between 48 and 86 cm, and it’s mean was 64.3 cm.

The morphological measurements recorded in this investigation were greater than what have been recorded in the Arabian Gulf and this due to the fact that Al-Mandhar area is rich in the food and in environmental variety in addition to its richness on the other biodiveristy.

It was found that this area is suitable for the reproduction of the Hawksbill sea turtle and can be considered as a nesting site.

The reproduction season of this kind of tutles is between January and March annually.

The female Hawksbill turtle laid between 50 and 100 eggs in each reproduction season .

The weight of the egg ranges between 19.2 and 37.1 gm and its mean was 28.4 gm, with a daimeter of 3.75 cm.The weight and daimeter of the egg is comparable to that found in the Arabian Gulf.
