Abstract EN

Hydrocarbon traps in Southeast Turkey are structurally controlled.

Overthrust- ing in the Cretaceous resulted in the formation of imbricate anticlinal structures.

The structural configuration makes the studied area ideal for dipmeter application.

The study provides some outlines on the structural and sedimentological interpretations using mainly dipmeter data.

This is based on identifying certain dip patterns that correspond to geological events.

Structural interpretation involved delineation of the structural dip, type of boundaries between formations, and determination of the different faulting patterns (mainly thrust faults) that affected the present structures.

The study also attempts to correlate dip results with the different lithologies, environment of deposition, and tectonic history of forma- tions.

In addition to delineation of structural characteristics, the use of the dipmeter is extended toward stratigraphical interpretation.

The very fine resolution of the dipmeter allows identification of some of the stratigraphical and petrophysical aspects of the main reservoir.

This has been achieved by producing synthetic logs from the dipmeter curves.

This approach allowed the delineation of textural/ lithological trends, type of bedding and bed boundaries, fractures, and differentia- tion between conductive water-bearing and resistive oil-bearing zones.
