Abstract EN

A short review of applications of lasers in high resolution spectroscopy is presented, with particular emphasis on the study of both singly and doubly excited high Rydberg states in the absence of strong external fields.

We also concentrate on free atoms, although the influence of collisions with a foreign gas is also considered, insofar as further spectral properties are thereby revealed.

Various experimental systems are described, including one until recently in existence at the University of Kuwait.
