Abstract EN

Planetary atoms are microscopic solar systems of one ion and two (or more) highly excited electrons, which orbit the ion in different regions of space.

The present paper discusses recent advances in the laser preparation of such atoms, which have, so far, not been observed in natural environments.

A theoretical overview over the rather exotic internal structure of these atoms is also presented, together with latest results of spectroscopic investigations.
