Abstract EN

A structural investigation has been made of asphaltenes obtained from two commercial Saudi Arabian crude oils, Arabian Light and Arabian Heavy.

For this purpose asphaltenes were precipitated from the 370°C+ residue of the above two crude oils by the use of different alkane solvents (pentane, heptane, and decane).

The asphaltenes were characterized in terms of elemental analysis, and infrared and nuclear magnetic spectroscopy.

The data obtained were used to derive a series of structural parameters for an average asphaltene moiety.
