Abstract EN

A Stark effect study of Sm I excited levels of the configuration 4/66s6p + 4fs5d6s2 was performed using high-resolution laser-atomic-beam spectroscopy in pure electric fields and the nonlinear level-crossing technique in parallel electric and magnetic fields.

In addition the Stark splitting of the six levels of the ground multiplet 4/66s27F in Smi was measured by an optical pumping experiment with RF-detection in parallel magnetic and electric fields.

The scalar and tensor polarizabilities of the investigated levels have been deduced from the measured shifts and splittings.

These polarizabilities were compared with theoretical values.
