Abstract EN

The problem of the initiation and reflection of traveling waves on a long thin wire of finite length when it is stimulated by a plane wave is investigated.

By modeling the wire as a narrow tube it is shown that all the traveling waves, except the one supported by a longitudinal symmetrical current, decay exponentially at a rapid rate.

The form of the longitudinal current is determined as well as its launching coefficient.

The reflection coefficient when such a traveling wave encounters an end is also found.

Expressions for the field scattered by the wire and the back scattering are derived in addition.
