Evaluation of water masses in the Western Mediterranean

The proportional occurrence of water masses in the Western Mediterranean had been determined.

The minimum percentage values of Atlantic Water « 20%) are detected in the same area of the Western Mediterranean Deep Water maximum ,(> 62%) .

The Livantine Intermediate water flows is determined by the nature of the bottom topography of Sicily Strait.

The high percentage values at the surface and the deep layer in the Gulf of Lions and the Ligurian Sea indicate that the source of the Western Mediterranean Deep Water is located in these basins .
