Abstract AR
Abstract EN
The marble layers at Ad Dawadmi-Afif area occur intercalating other metamorphic units specially at Jabal Khanugah and Jabal Al Khawar.
These deposits are studied in detail with the objectives of determining their geomechanical classification and evaluating their economic importance.
It was found that the marble consists mainly of calcite of fine grained texture in most part of the area and of medium grained texture within Zone I of Jabal Khanugah.
Colors vary from white to black with various shades of grey.
Fracturing is extensive in the northern part of Jabal Khanugah and systematic in Jabal A1 Khawar.
The rest of the deposit in other parts of Jabal Khanugah appears to be massive.
The encountered marbles satisfy the requirements of the ASTM and could be classified as high strength rocks with high modulus ratio or as strong and slightly to very slightly deformable rock.
Shelf or hillside quarrying are recommended to be the most appropriate methods for the extraction of blocks, making the best use of the existing rock joints.
More polishing efforts are needed in order to attain better products.
