Abstract EN

Being the only mobile component of the mitochondrial respiratory chain, the ubiquinones (coenzyme Q) are quite susceptible for interaction with strange molecules in the mitochondrion of the living cell.

It was found that as a result of interactions with different organic molecules, e.g.

antimalarials.

corticosterone, glycine, acetamide, acetonitrile etc the magnitude of the negative reduction potential of the ubiquinone increases.

The reduction potential of the ubiquinone was found dependent on its concentration in the solution too.

The electrochemical reduction was not reversible when measured in alcoholic medium.

The results are relevant to the problem of impact of organic molecules on the respiration of the living organisms.
