Abstract EN
-The distribution of major, minor and trace elements in the Cenozoic basanites from Ja-bal El-Dabusa indicates a homogenous Lava flow from a mantle source.
The Mg-values (Mg/Mg+Fe*) basanite samples exhibit different degrees of fractionation with low degree of melting (<20%), as indicated from the varying concentrations of incompatible trace elements (Ba, Rb, Sr).
The basanite rocks contain spinel-lherzolite xenoliths and are reported for the first time from the study area.
The xenoliths are composed of livine (forsterite), orthopyroxene (enstatite), clinopyroxene (chrom diopside) and spinel.
Their mineral assemblages, chemistry, texture and major elements abundances indicate derivation and equilibration under upper-mantle conditions within a temperature range of 1010 - 1070 C\ The pressure as indicated from the stability field of spinel-lherzolite is approximately equivalent to a depth of 60 km.
Low concentration of Li and Rb in Uie basanite is used as an argument against the contamination of the basanitic magma during its journey to the surface.
