Abstract EN
In a typical developing country (Jordan) the lack of road safety education programs at schools and the safety publicity campaigns have given rise to a continual increase in pedestrian accidents.
A comprehensive survey of pedestrians' road crossing in real traffic conditions, was evaluated in terms of pedestrian crossing speeds.
delay time and head movements before and during crossings.
It was found that.
the average crossing speed is sig- nificantly lower than expected.
It was also found that.
approximately of Fdestrians had O seconds delay time before crossing the road.
Similarly, ap- proximately 47% of pedestrians did not in either direction cross.
ing the road.
The investigation of road crossing behavior mandates the of road safety education at schools on the national level.
and implementing an adequate and effective road safety publicity through the mass media.
