Delineation and analysis of drainage pattern from satellite images of Sahl Al Matran Area, Northwest Saudi Arabia

The potential importance of groundwater in Saudi Arabia is presented.

Space borne remote sensing devices have been used to collect data and to investigate the drainage pattern of Sahl A1 Matran Area, in the northwestern part of Saudi Arabia, between Al Wajh and Umm Lajj cities.

Enhanced Landsat Thematic Mapper images, together with aerial photos, have been used in the visual identification of thematic features.

Di¬gital image processing and lithographies were prepared.

Distinct drainage pattern types occurring in the study area are characterized.

Drainage analysis was carried out in order to reveal the efficiency of the drainage network expressed as the drainage type, orientation, density, in¬tegration and uniformity.

Drainage angularity in the area is clearly related to the main fault systems of the area.
