Synthesis and characterization of triphenyltin (TV)‎ complexes with some Schiff -base derivatives

Triphenyltin (IV) complexes, PhjStiX.L, where X « OH, Cl,N^NO^ and L * Schiff-base derived from substituted or non-substituted 2-or 3- aminopyridine and 2-hydroxy (or 2-methoxy) benzaldehyde, have been synthesised and characterized physicochemically and spectroscopically.

The Schiff-base seems to coordinate with tin metal in a monodentate fashion via the most reactive bonding site; the central imine (azomethine) nitrogen, giving complexes with tin of penta - coordination number.

With few exceptions, all the triphenyltin chloride and the nitrate complexes showed almost 1:1 conductivity in both solvents EtOH and DMF indicating the ionic structure [Ph3Sn.L]+ Xwhereas all the hydroxide and the azide complexes showed almost non * conductive species, indicating the non - ionic structure [ Ph3SnX.L] in solution.

Explanation for such results have been given and discussed..
