Substitution of suturing, wound healing, pocket depth reduction, attachment level stability after introduction of fibrin adhesive system (Tissucol)‎ in periodontal flap surgery

The present investigation was undertaken to study the efficacy of fibrin adhesive system (Tissucol) as a substitution to the tradi- tional suturing, and to compare the clinical findings obtained in case of traditional suturing.

Thus, two groups (Tissucol group and suturing group), each of 21 adult peri pdonitis patients of nearly equal age, were subjected to the repositioned flap, apically reposi- tioned flap, and modified widman flap procedures.

Haemostasis time (T.H.) flap adaptation time (F.A.T) postoper- ative discomfort time (P.D.T pain and swelling) and clinical heal- ing achievement time ( C.H.A.T ) of tisscol group (T.G.) were compared to those of suturing group (S.G.).

This study showed that fibrin adhesive system provides rapid haemostasis action and excellent flap fixation and adaptation, it's introduction shortened, significantly the clinical healing period of wounded area and postoperative discomfort time.

The intragroup comparison revealed that there were significant gain in attachment level and probing depth in both groups.: But the intergroup comparison revealed that the probing depth reduction and attachment gain obtained after tissucol introduction were, sig- nificantly, larger than that obtained after suturing.
