Abstract EN

A batch evaporative crystallizer was used to crystallize sodium chloride from Al-Azraq brine.

The main impurity presented in the obtained salt is the sulfate content.

The distribution of sulfate in different size fractions was determined.

Sulfate content was found to concentrate in sizes smaller than 125 |im.

Purification was accomplished by rejection of fines (< 125 Jim).

The produced salt contains less than 1% sulfate and satisfies the Jordanian standard No.

32 for table salt.

The amount of fines rejected represents about 5% of the salt produced.The effect of residence time is to increase the yield of salt, but it has not a significant effect on the purification process.
