Evaluation of municipal, industrial and agricultural refuse materials and its effects on some characteristics of tigris river water in Mosul city

Abstract EN

The paper presents analytical study on pollution of Tigris river by municipal, industrial and agricultural wastes.

Standard analytical methods were used tor the estimation of pollutants which included: total organic matter (expressed in terms of chorofonn extracts),pH, alkyl benzene sulphonates (ABS), phosphate, chlorides, sulphate, total hardness and dissolved solids.

Consective seasonal study was conducted which was started in May 1991 and ended in February J 992.

The results showed direct participation of municipal a industrial sources in polluting Tigris river water, especially in locations near the point were this waste water dischargs joins Tigris river in Mosul city.

Also there is an interrelationship between certain pollutants, especially that between (ABS) and phosphat -
