The kinetics of chlorination of furan-2-carboxylic acid (FA) by chloramine-T (CAT) in the presence of hydrochloric acid has been studied at 25°C.
The reaction shows first-order dependence on (CAT), hydrogen ion and fractional order dependence on the 2- Fuoric acid.
Variation of ionic strength has no effect.
Addition of p- toluenesulfonamide causes a retardation, while an increase in the proportion of methanol accelerates the rate.
The activation parame¬ters for the reaction were also calculated.
