The muscle fibers in the iliofibularis of die chanicleon, Chamaeleo ehamaelco recticrista were classified as fast anti slowon the basis of their cytoiogical and ultra-structural properties.

The fact fibers were stained dark when incubated for myofibrillar adenosine triphosphatase (rti-ATPase;:activity ::at-pi?:$■$.

.’However,: slow’ fibers stained light indicating low nyofibriiar ATPase activity, past fibers had obvious myofibrils (Fibrillenstruckture); aboundance of the sarcoplasmic rctieulirn (SR) and T-tubles: presence of M bands, and strailght Z-lines.

Howcver.

the ukrastructural organization of slow fibers were in sharp contrast to those of fast fibers which had fused myofibrils (Felderstrukture); poor development of sarcoplasmic reticulum and T-tubles; absence of VI-bands, and thick Z-iines.
