Abstract EN
This paper presents a fault diagnostic expert system (ES) developed for IBM Personal Computers (PCs) and compatibles; hence called PCEXT.
Development of PCEXT has a two-fold objective.
First, it emphasizes the engineering approach of ES development by utilizing; s Also, to improve efficiency of PCEXT operation, a hybrid knowledge representation scheme has been implemented; namely using frame and production systems. Second, the system could perform a complementary role within an integrated maintenance management framework, and thus be used as an engineering management tool. Operation of the system is illustrated by running a diagnostic session. The results promise a high potential for improving the performance of the maintenance process in terms of fester response, more reliable diagnosi&e, and better documentation.
