Abstract EN
A new field measurements at line conductors during impulse corona discharge are presented.
It is shown that the conductor surface field, following corona inception, undergoes a reduction to a minimum and then a recovery to almost the inception value.
Both field reduction and rate of recovery are voltage dependent.
The actual conductor surface field variation with applied voltage is used in conjunction with two corona discharge models to develop charge/voltage (q/V) curves for impulse corona.
The modeling procedures are also used to predict the rate of conductor surface field recovery.
A comparison is made between predicted and measured results whereby it is shown that switching impules corona discharge is better simulated using what is termed’’cloud" charge distribution.
