Abstract EN
Algal flora along Tigris and Euphrates rivers from Baghdad southward were studied as well as in Shatt Al-Arab estuary.
Out of 58 algal taxon identified throughout this study, Melosira spp.
and Cyclotella spp.
were found to be dominant.
It was found that 70% of the twin rivers flora do not.
tolerate the estuary environment, whereas 60% of the algal flora of Shatt Al-Arab estuary comes from different sources other than that of Tigris and Euphrates.
Some physico-chemical parameters were investigated in these three water bodies.
This investigation may be regard as a baseline for future limnological studies in other inland waters of Iraq.
