Aqueous extract effects of hoary pepperwort fCardaria draba "L." Desv.) on wheat (Triticum durum L.

cv.

Stork) and barley (Hordeuni vulgare L.

cv.

Acsad 176) were investigated under laboratory conditions.

Germination percentage and seedlings growth of both crop species were severely reduced with weed extract.

Full strength of fresh shoot extract reduced wheat germination by up to 68% compared with the control, and prevented growth of seedlings.

In contrast, fresh root cxtract used at low concentration, stimulated root length, shoot dry weight and root dry weight of wheat seedlings.

Fresh parts extract was more harmful to the seedlings than dried parts extract and shoot extract was more deleterious to both crop species than root extract.

The inhibitory effects was concentration dependent.

Roots were more susceptible to the extract than shoots and under all treatments, while barley was more sensitive to shoot and root extracts than wheat.
