Anatomical study on the distribution of the intrahepatic and extrahepatic biliary duct system of local sheep and goat in Mosul province

Ten sheep and ten goats of different local breeds were used to study the intruhepatic and extrahepatic biliary duct system.

The techniques employed comprised of latex injection, radiorgaphy and Radopast corrosion casting.

The results obtained showed that the biliary duct system was following the lobar arrangement of the liver.

In 90% of goats cases and 10% of sheep cases the common hepatic duct was formed by the confluence of major hepatic ducts from the lobes of the liver.

In 90% of sheep cases and 10% of goats cases the common hepatic duct was formed by the union of the major hepatic ducts from the lobes, except two ducts from the caudate lobe and right lobe.

The common trunk formed by the union of two ducts from the latter two lobes open directly into the cystic duet.

The intra- and extrahepatic pattern of biliary duct system of local sheep aiid goats was different from the arrangement seen in foreign breeds,
