Abstract EN

The skin layers of the buffalo's muzzle has been shown to consist of epidermis, dermis.

and hypodermis.

The histochemistry of mucopolysaccharides (MPS) has been studied on carnoy's fixed materials.

The small amount of acidic MPS between epidermal layers help to form a cementing layer between a different strata.

The nasolabial glands (NLGS) were composed of iubuio-acmar units, Their secrctory ceils have a serous appearance with the H & E stain.

With the selected methods of histochemistry the serous; cells were shown to contain neutral MPS as a major constituents of secretion from NLGS.

In addition to that small amount of acidic sulphated MPS was added to the final sccretion, Although the luminal contents were stainabie with each stain accordingly, the wall of the duct system did not sho-w any reaction.

The results obtained were discussed with respect to the biological function of the muzzle.

A comparison also made between the type of secretion produced by the buffalo's NLGS with similar material secreted by NLGS of the bovine muzzle, and the skin ecrine glands of goat nasolabial region and pig snout.
