Histological observations on the distribution of mast cells in the gallbladder and biliary duct system of goats and sheep

Abstract EN

The present work reports the presence of mast cells among the epithelium of the gallbladder and biliary duct system of both sheep and goat.

The results obtained have shown that a noticeable number of mast cells migrate from the underlying tissues to the lining epithelium in both species.

The maximum number of mast cells migration oc • cured in the neck region (sheep = 3.4%, goat 3.0%), bile duct (sheep = 3.5%, goat 3.1%) and common bile duct (sheep = 3.7%.

The Alcian blue pH 1.0 stain demonstrated the presence of suiphated mucopolysaccharides in the mast cells granules.

The significant of mast cells migration is discussed with possible relation to normal function of the gallbladder and biliary duct system.
