Abstract EN
Sulphur concrete is rarely used in Jordan at present, because most of the people working in construction are not aware of this material and its properties and possible applications.
In this research, an experimental investigation has been conducted to determine some of the important mechanical properties of sulphur concrete produced using local available aggregates and commercially available sulphur.
It has been obtained that sulphur concrete strength depends on type of aggregate, aggregate particle shape and surface texture, and the amount of sulphur binder in the mix.
Increased amounts of sulphur beyond; an optimum value was found to adversely affect the strength of concrete.
The optimum sulphur contents for limestone, natural river, basalt and Sweilleh sand aggregates with maximum aggregate size of 5mm were obtained as 27%, 31%, 28% £md 45% respectively.
