tn this study a cDNA encoding a Neurospora crassa ribosomal protein has been isolated.
The cONA was obtained by the differential screening of a cDNA library for glucose - inducible genes.
The cDNA is 682 nucleotides in length and contains translational start and stop codons.
Computer analysis of the cDNA showed that it contains an open reading frame which encodes a protein homologous to the rat ribosomal protein, S26, and to the equivalent Drosophila ribosoma! protein.
A nick * translated probe of the ribosomal protein gene cDNA recognized 800 nucleotides transcript.
In presence of glucose in the extracellular medium, the transcription erf the ribosomal protein gene is induced over 50 fold.
However, transcription of {Grg -1) which is a Neurospora glucose - repressive gene is repressed.
Grg -1 transcription is induced about 50 fold in the absence of glucose (Carbon catabotite repression).
