-The pres ent investigation was ca rr ied out during the fo ur successive growing seasons (19H7/88 - 19'J0/91 ) to stu dy the response of wh eat cultivar "Yecora Rojo " to five se e ding rates ; 120 , ISO, 180 , 210 a nd 240 kg! ha a t th e Agricul tural Experimental St ation , College of Agr iculture and Veterina ry Medicine .

E xpe riments conducted d ur ing th e fir st two season s wer e used to st udy gra in and biolog ica l yields and harve st index whe reas th ose co nd ucte d in the third and fourth seasons we re used to study yie ld and its compo ne nts as well as plant hei ght an d heading dat e .

A ran domized co mple te bloc k design with fo ur re plic ations was used in all ex peri ments in each of the fo ur se aso ns.

Results revealed th at seedin g rat e had significant effec ts on gr ain yie ld and harv est index in three seasons and o n biol ogical yie ld in o ne season o nly.

In creasing se edi ng rate be yon d ISO kg/ha decreased gr ain yie ld and har vest inde x in 1'J87/H8 and 19HH/89 seasons .

while, it non signifi cantly in cre ase d both trait s in I 'J'JOI'J I season.

Bi ol ogical yie ld was incr e ased by incr easi ng se ed ing ra te in I 'JR'J/90 season, however .

thi s in crease wa s not signifi cant be yond IHO kg/ha .

Seeding rat e had s ignificant e ffects o n number of sp ikcs/ rn/ an d kernel wei ght in 198'J/90 and o n number of kernels/spike and number of days to heading in 19'JONI se ason .

On the o the r hand.

high se e di ng rate significa ntly increased plant hei ght in both se aso ns .

The results indi cated th at the respon se of whe at cultivar "Yeco ra Rojo" to seeding ra te va ried with enviro nme nt.

However, it could be co ncluded that .

t he o pt imum see di ng rat e for A l-Qa ssim region lies between ISOand IRO kg/ha.
