Abstract EN

This study investigates the realtionships between the particularistic municipal voting patterns and the social background demographic characteristics of the municipal electorate in the Jordanian district of Jer&sh* The impact of voters1 age, sex, education, occupational back* ground, level of income and urban/ruraJ background characteristics on theirmunicipalvoHng patterns has been entpiricakly tested.

The findingsof this study revealed that age, level of education, and occupational backgound are significantly related to the particularistic voting patterns of the municipal electorate.

The study also revealed that voters’ sex, level of income, and iwrban/iurai demographic characteristics areirrelevant factors to their particularistic voting patterns.

In light of these findings certainmeasures regarding.....the formation of municipal couiiciisand the - training programs aiming to enhanc e their capabilities have been proposed and recommended.
