The article intends to optimize the switching frequency of grid connected photovoltaic inverter and Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) of the source current through adaptive controlled modified hysteresis current controller.

Reference current generation is done using synchronous reference frame based algorithm.

Use of modified hysteresis controller results in reducing the switching loses to one-third but is insufficient to maintain the current THD within the specified limits.

To overcome this pulses to the modified hysteresis controller are generated employing adaptive control by modifying pulses from a conventional hysteresis controller.

Effectiveness of the proposed work was checked for various source and load conditions with MATLAB/SIMULINK.

Using adaptive control instantaneous switching frequency is reduced, optimized and maintained nearly constant and THD is brought to the limits specified by the standards, overcoming the disadvantage of conventional and modified hysteresis controller which has variable switching frequency.
