Abstract EN

In presence of different sulphide concentrations the sugar uptake by both Aspergillus niger and Cladosporium herbarum was inhibited leading to a decrease in the dry weight.

Oppositely, sugar uptake by Fusarium oxyspomm and Chaetomium otivaceum was accelerated with dose increase of Na2S and coupled with a concomitant increase in the fungal biomasses.

Nitrogen utilization was accelerated in the four tested fungi with the increase of sulphide dose.

The amino- N content increased in media and mats of the four fungi while total soluble- N content decreased in their media only.

Protein content of mats declined with dose increase of sulphide especially in case of Cladosporium and Aspergillus indicating sulphide toxicity on the endoproteolytic activity.

The RNA of the fungal cells seemed to be less affected by sulphide doses than DN A.
