Abstract EN

Exclamatory expressions in Arabic constitute a frequently used mode in both speech and writing.

Although Arab grammarians have studied these expressions in detail, they have not reached an agreement among thesemlves concerning their status and how best to analyze them.

In addition, exclamatory structures still comprise a vague area and represnt some difficulty for learners, instructors and researchers.

In this paper we will attempt to dear up the difficulty and vegueness that have accompanied these structures.

We will bring in the early Arab grammarians’ views on these constructions and comment on them.

Then, we will propose Our own analysis of these language phenomenon within the framework of recent linguistic theories hoping that we will present a simpler and a more unified account of these exclamations.

By doing so, we hope that we will make the task easier for those dealing with and interested in such language processes.
