Abstract EN
The spatial and temporal variations in the primary productivity and chemical constituents of the brown algea Padina pavonia (L.) Gaillon and Cotpomcnia sinusa (Men.
ex Roth) Derbcs el Softer from three localities along the coast of the Gulf of Aqaba have been investigated.
No significant differences were observed for primary productivity, either between the two algal species or for their spatial distribution.
Of both species, only Padina pavonia showed significant temporal variation in its primary productivity.
A significant negative correlation was observed in Padina pavonia between net oxygen production and light intensity.
Both algal species were significantly different in their chemical constituents.
The nutritive value (C/N ratio) was similar in both species.
