Involvement of Jordanian executives in social responsibility : an exploratory study

Abstract EN

The purpose of the study was to determine whether, or not Jordanian corporations have a favorable involvement in social activities through the attempt of exploring the following aspects: .

1- What are the most likely areas of social involvement by Jordanian corporations.

2- Top executives’ and managers’ attitudes toward social involvement.

3- Factors influencing the selection of areas of social involvement.

The Importance of the study is derived from the evidence that managers’ opinions are reflected in their decisions, as well as companies' demographic and financial vanablesareofa great influence in their social involvement.

Findings of the study emphasized corporations’ concern on traditional social activities as well as environmental activities, but with a more concern on modern activities in the area of c°"*umer affairs based on their belcifs that they are participating in social development through enhancing their responsibility by doing so.

It is recommended to educate business corporations executives and managers about social responsibility through specialized training courses to "lake them realize that it is more profitable in the long run.

Business schools in Jordan should have some teaching courses to enrich social and public view in today’s management.

Throug participating in social development, it would improve economic conditions and encourage businesses to expand their investments, and it would avoid governmental pressure and interference in their activities.
