Survey of plant parasitic nematode genera associated with natural vegetation in Taif Area, Saudi Arabia

Abstract EN

A survey of plant parasitic nematodes associated with the rhizosphere of forty-three native spccies of vascular plants, belonging to eighteen families, was carricd out.

Fifty soil samples were collected from four localities: Al-Hada, Wadi Ghazal.

Wadi Al-Equailah and Al-Shafa.

Description of the studied area and its climatic conditions was included.

Twelve nematode genera were recorded.

Based on their frequency of occurrence, these genera can be arranged in descending order as follows: Helicolyleiwhus, Xiphinema, Longidorus, Paraiylenchus, Trichodorus, Tylenchorhynchus, Meloidogyne.

C'riconemoides, Prtttylenchus, Aphelen-choides Aphelenchiis and Tylenchus.

Clutia myricoides (Euphorbiaceae) appeared to encounter the highest number of nematode genera (7 gen.), followed by Anthemis tigreensis (Compositae) (6 gen ), Fagoniu acerosa (Zygophyllaeeae) (6 gen.), Otoslegia frutieosa (Labiateae) (5 gen.), Felicia abyssinica (Compositae) (5 gen.) and Aspodelus fislulosus (liliaceae) (5 gen.).

Relations between frequency of occurrence of nematode genera, soil type and plant spccies arc discussed.
