Abstract EN
A set of interactive strength equations based on the skew-bending model have been modified for designing rectangular beams subjected to torsion, bending and shear.
The design procedure is a trial and error approach, and is based on the estimation of the required pure flexural moment capacity of the section to be designed.
Torsion-bending-shear interaction data of a reference section have been used in estimating the pure flexural moment capacity.
These data are presented in a tabular form and also as non-dimensional interaction diagrams.
Four numerical examples covering different possible modes of failure are presented.
The torsional moment capacities of the designed sections are compared with those given by the ACI code torsion equations.
