English Abstract
Glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) is a composite material made of fiber reinforcement surrounded by a solid matrix.
It was used for structural applications and there are many advantages ofGFRP, such as light weight, corrosion resistance, --- etc.
The objective of this study is to investigate the tensile and buckling of composite materials made from glass fiber reinforced unsaturated polyester with different fiber volume fraction Vf, and angle of two types of fibers coarse and fine woven fibers reinforcement.
The composite specimens were prepared by hand lay-up technique and cutting according to ASTM D - 638 for tensile test to obtain modulus ofelasticity, tensile strength at break and percentage elongation ofthe composite specimens.
As for buckling test has studied the effect ofaspect ratio (L/T), volume fraction of fiber’s (V) and angle offibers on critical load for composite column.
The variables that will be considered for the experimental work include aspect ratio (3.5, 4 and 4.5), volume fraction for fine fiber's (4%, 7% & 11%) and coarse fibers (3%, 5% & 8%) and angle of fiber's (0/90) & (45°/-45°) for both types.
The numerical method based on FEM was used to analyze the critical buckling load ofcomposite column.
The finite element method results obtained by using program (ANSYS 14) have also shown a good agreement with results that were obtained experimentally.
Mathematical models were done by using statistical package for social science (SPSS) which show the tensile and buckling properties ofthe composite specimens as a function ofvolume fraction and angle offiber.
Also the results show that the maximum value of critical load, the modulus of elasticity and tensile strength at break were (500.72 N, 11.5GPa & 240MPa) happed at (11% Vf) for fine woven fibers and for (0/90) fibers angle while the percentage elongation was (2.5%).
