English Abstract
Digital subscriber line (DSL) is one member of a group of broadband access technology that uses the existing copper local loop of the analog Public Switch Telephone Network (PSTN) for high speed data transmission .
The aim of the work is to design, simulation and implementation of the Discrete Multitone (DMT) modulation for ADSL based on Software Defined Radio (SDR) using FPGA.
DMT divides the available bandwidth into parallel sub-channels.
The main units of the DMT modulator are serial to parallel converter, symbol mapping, IFFT, parallel to serial and cyclic prefix.
There are two techniques to transmit data namely complex transmission and real transmission .Real transmission is preferred for DSL, since it needs single wire but uses twice number of IFFT.
This work includes the design simulation and implementation of (8,16,32,64,128,256) IFFT for complex transmission and real transmission, serial to parallel, symbol mapping, parallel to serial and cyclic prefix for complex and real transmission .
The Simulink HDL Coder has been used for converting the MATLAB-Simulink models to VHDL language.
The verification of the generated VHDL code has been done using Altera- ModelSim, while the synthesis reports and board programming files have been obtained using the Quartus II.
System implementation using FPGA technology with Altera Cyclone II boards DE2-70.
The implementation by using Simulink HDL coder, shows the feasibility and flexibility in solving the problem of real implementation of DMT moderator .
Experimental results show that there are coincidence between generated real and complex waveform signal and simulated real and complex signal by MATLAB (Simulink and M-file) and Simulink HDL Coder.
