English Abstract
Image compression is the technique of reducing the size of the image file with maintaining image quality.
In this work, two uniform Quantization Matrices are proposed that is suitable to compress medical images using Framelet Transform and implemented on two proposed algorithms.
The first algorithm is used for grayscale and color medical images while the second is used for grayscale medical images only.
It is found that the first proposed quantization matrix is better than the second in terms of Peak Signal to Noise Ratio (PSNR).
While the second proposed quantization matrix is faster than the first.
This suggested work is compared with wavelet and multiwavelet based algorithms and other previously related works and it is found that the quantization matrices proposed is most suitable for compression medical images with framelet transform and framelet transform is the best compression method for medical images.
The experimental results show that the proposed algorithms are simple to implement and gives good image quality and good compression ratio.
That’s where compression ratios which obtained in the first algorithm ranging from 86% to 95% with PSNR ranging from 30 to 39 for grayscale and color medical images.
and compression ratios which obtained in the second algorithm ranging from 67% to 80% with PSNR ranging from 35 to 42 for grayscale medical images.
These results are tested with a computer with the following specification; Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2430M CPU@ 2.40GHz and RAM- 4G Bytes.
The language used for testing these algorithms is MATLAB R2011a.
